How to Identify and Treat Lawn Disease

Lawn disease comes in many forms which are difficult to identify and, in some cases, very difficult to treat. Most home owners’ first reaction when they see evidence of lawn disease is to run out and buy a fungicide. STOP! You may be doing more harm than good using this method. There are some varieties of lawn disease that do not respond to fungicides. Changing how the lawn is mowed or watered may be the answer. Planting grass that is resistant to certain diseases may be the best answer. Due to lawn disease in some cases mirroring the characteristics of pests or poor maintenance it is advisable to have a professional come in. Some lawn disease, like Grease Spot or Red Thread, is easy to identify others are not and the treatment for them can vary drastically. A professional landscaper can identify and treat the disease in the correct manner, causing you less frustration in some cases, even saving you money! Get them involved as soon as possible since some lawn disease must be treated in its early stages. In the coming weeks we will be discussing the different varieties of grass and which works best in our climate.
