Why Choose Groundcover Over Sod?
While sod is by far the most popular option for residential groundcover chosen by homeowners in the Myrtle Beach area, it is far from the only option. Choosing an alternative groundcover can add a level of color and texture to your outdoor space that is unachievable with traditional warm-season sods. Choosing a South Carolina native groundcover can also help attract and benefit pollinators and wildlife. Most alternative groundcover options can even be easier to maintain, use less water, and suppress weeds much more effectively than sod can. Alternative groundcovers could also be used to fill in some bare areas in a sod lawn, giving a traditional lawn look and feel with just a little extra visual appeal mixed in. Here are some great alternative groundcover options:
- Asiatic Jasmine (learn more about the pros and cons of asiatic jasmine as a groundcover with Matt and Jen in this video from our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/reel/841112808461609 )
- Blue Star Creeper
- Moss
- Sedum
- Creeping Thyme
- Juniper
- Bugleweed
