How to Properly Care for Pindo Palms

In the late Spring / early Summer, Pindo Palms begin their blooming and fruiting cycle that requires proper maintenance to efficiently care for. This process begins by the palm tree producing a woody 3-4 ft long stalk that is most commonly green, yellow, or brown in color. These are the Pindo Palm’s seed pods. Proper Pindo Palm maintenance includes removing these seed pods as they emerge, before they open up.

Once they open up, they will begin flowering and producing large amounts of fruits that can cause a huge mess that is very difficult to clean up due to the soft and gooey texture of the fruits. Removing seed pods before they open can also help the Pindo Palm conserve the energy that would have been used to produce fruit, to instead use that energy to grow taller and stronger.

Fertilization Care for Pindo Palms

Pindo Palm trees also require a proper fertilizing schedule to maintain health and steady growth. This fertilizing schedule requires 3 feedings a year, once in the Spring, once in the Summer, and once in the Fall. A great fertilizer with all of the necessary nutrients that Pindo Palms require is 8-2-12.
