Repairing The Bare Areas Of Your Lawn

There are two ways that you can repair the bare areas of your lawn to create a fully lush lawn. These two options are to fill the bare areas with sod, or to fill the bare areas with seed sowing. Regardless of which method you choose, the beginning steps go as follows:
- Remove any dead grass or other debris in the affected areas to create an exposed area of soil
- Loosen the soil with a rake
- Conduct a soil test and amend soil as needed
How to Repair Areas of your Lawn
If you choose to use the seed sowing method, your next step is to begin sowing your seeds. You can do this by taking a handful of grass seeds and evenly spreading them throughout the areas of exposed soil. Once you have sowed your seeds, it is very important to water them immediately. You will want to continue to deeply water the areas where you have sowed your seeds twice a day for about 2 weeks, or whenever your grass has filled in enough to be mowed. After the first mow you can maintain these areas of your lawn just like you maintain the rest of your lawn.
If you choose to use sod to fill in the bare patches of your lawn, you will need to begin cutting the sod to fit the areas of exposed soil that you have prepared. Once you have your sod in your desired size and shape, you can lay and press the sod on top of the exposed soil. You will need to deeply water your sod immediately after laying it, and you will need to continue to deeply water the sod every day for 1-2 weeks. Once the roots of the sod begin to settle into the soil, it will begin to grow and merge with the rest of the lawn.
