Seed Starting For Your Garden

Seed starting is a great cost effective way to add a wide variety of plants to your garden! It is ideal to start the seed starting process indoors with just a few supplies needed:
- A transplant tray with a lid
- Seed starting soil mix
- Labels
- Seeds

To start, plant about 1-3 seeds in each individual section of the transplant tray. Seed starting has an 80% success rate. Because of this, adding a couple extra seeds to ensure proper germination is a good idea. Plant the seeds ¼ inches deep into the soil and gently cover the tray to the top. Water your seeds and place the lid on the top to contain moisture. Remember to label your seeds so that you don’t forget what you’re growing! It is important to make sure that the inside of the transplant remains consistently moist at all times.
Once you begin to see your seeds sprout, it’s time to take the lid off and move your transplant tray to a sunny indoor area, or under a grow light. The full germination process typically takes about 4-6 weeks, but the exact amount of time will be listed on your seed packet. Once your sprouts reach about 3 inches tall, its time to transplant them into your garden and watch them thrive throughout the season!
