Spring Home Maintenance Tips
Spring Home Maintenance Tips
We have posted Spring home maintenance tips for the outside of your home. Between the 4 walls of your home are items that need attention as well. It’s easy to remember to do both out and inside home maintenance based on the time changes. If you use this method for home maintenance then you won’t forget and won’t skip it.
First check all your small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers and microwaves for frayed or worn wires. If this is the case and you want to repair – consider calling in a professional.
Next on the list are your large appliances, in many cases poor maintenance will result in higher energy bills and lower efficiency of the appliance.
Refrigerators
- Check the temperature – keep the fridge between 37 and 40 degrees F and freezer at 0.
- Check the door seals for cracks or signs of wear. Clean any food residue so the doors close completely.
- Clean the coils – if they are in the back, move out the fridge or take off the grill if they are in front. Unplug the refrigerator and vacuum the dust off
Dryers and Washers
- Clean lint trap after every use, build up will result in lower efficiency
- Remover and clean entire duct line to insure it is clear of lint and obstructions. Build up of lint is a major cause of house fires.
- Check gaskets, drums and hoses for tight fittings – no cracks or leaks
- Check washer for any mildew or mold which can result from leaving damp clothing in the washer. Clean drum with equal parts vinegar and water.
Dishwashers
- Inspect the tiny holes in the spinning arms for food build up, remove with a fine wire
- Check for mildew and mold, remove with bleach – run a separate load with no other cleaning product.
- Check and clean gaskets around the door
- Inspect the drain in the bottom of the dishwasher – this is where waste water goes and solid matter will build up
