October Maintenance Tips
Fertilizing
Fertilizing in October is a great way to help your plants become hardier before temperatures drop in the winter. Fertilizers that are high in nitrogen and low in potassium (like 25-5-5 or 24-4-12) will benefit your shrubs and trees the most in the fall.
Pruning
Pruning and deadheading your fall perennials and annuals in October is recommended to help create longer lasting blooms in your fall garden. Some fall flowering plants that will benefit the most from deadheading and pruning in October include:
- Butterfly bushes
- Roses
- Delphinium
- Gardenia
- Hydrangea
October is also a good time to prune fast growing/overgrown shrubs such as ligustrums and pyracantha.
We would like to thank everyone who came to see us at the home show last month! We are very excited to get started on all of these new projects!
