Transplanting In Your Garden
Do you have a plant in your front yard that you would prefer to be planted in the backyard? Are you interested in planting a removed and discarded plant from a friend’s or neighbor’s yard into your own garden? This process is called transplanting!
And here’s how you do it:
- If possible, try to do your transplanting in the fall, when the weather has cooled down a bit. While you are still able to transplant in the summer, hot weather can potentially damage exposed roots during the transplanting process.
- Do not transplant a blooming plant! Wait a few weeks after the blooms have faded to transplant.
- Dampen the soil of the plant before it is removed from its original location
- Re-plant in a hole that is a little bit bigger than the root ball of the plant
- Water deeply immediately after planting in the new location
