The Benefits of Earthworms
Earthworms may be unpleasant to encounter for some gardeners, but it is in the best interest of your garden to allow these earthworms to live in it! Here are some ways that earthworms help your garden thrive:
- They feed off of the decaying plants and animals in the soil which helps make the soil healthy
- Earthworms digest the soil and releases waste back into the soil called castings
- Earthworm castings are rich in nutrients for plants
- These critters go under the soil and create tunnels after it rains which is great for the health of the soil because it mixes up the soil, allowing air and water to get inside the soil to help plants grow
By nurturing earthworm populations in your garden, you can unlock their full potential and truly see the rewards of a thriving garden ecosystem.
