Bedding For Your Plants
Are you trying to decide between filling your garden beds with mulch, pine straw, or rock? The bedding you choose can be determined by which plants you are attempting to include, price range, environment, and other factors. Here are some things to consider while making that decision:
Mulch Bedding
- Mulch likes to hold water more than pine straw or rock. This could be beneficial and require less frequent watering maintenance for your bedding. Or it could be harmful if you are planting in an area with soil that is already excessively damp, potentially causing root rot.
Pine Straw Bedding
- While pine straw is initially the least expensive option, it also requires to be replaced the most often. This could potentially mean that the cost of maintaining a pine straw bed may be greater than the cost of using mulch or rock in the first place.
Rock Bedding
- While rock is initially the most expensive option, once it is installed it will never need to be replaced. Rock also provides the most effective water drainage for the soil underneath.
